In the hours after the twin towers were destroyed on September 11th, 2001, hundreds of volunteers began showing up at ground zero.
Some came with the determination to help in any way they could. Others, like Chris Wagner and Ralph (Red) Andersen, two New York City Steamfitters, had the skills they knew rescue workers would need.
Both knew how to use gas welding torches.
On September 12th, 2001 Chris and Ralph showed up at the pile and for the next 5 days spent hours searching for survivors. A grim task that mostly had them lifting body bags and using torches to slice through heavy beams of steel.
